OK, so this is heavy.
Really, really heavy.
In my last entry, for absolutely no reason, I mentioned comedian Richard Jeni. I was making a point that “football is homo erotic” jokes are a little olde timey and somewhat — I hate to say this now — hacky.
Well, a few days later:
THIS HAPPENED
I’m not going to say that my stupid blog entry pushed him over the edge; only three of my friends read this thing. I also won’t deny that it messes me up for a couple of reasons. One, I actually LIKE Richard Jeni. He’s a damn funny comedian and I am not saying that because now he’s gone, but I really mean it. Second, I know thousands of comedians I could have said in that piece before him, but for some reason his name was the first one that came to me. This disturbs me.
It’s sad because Its always sad to see a fellow comedian cave in. This profession is a million times harder than it looks on the outside and when people like Larry The Cable Guy and Dane Cook are the biggest comedians in the world, it’s enough to make any of us shoot ourselves in the face.
